“idleness is the enemy of the soul; and therefore the brethren ought to be employed in manual labor at certain times, at others, in devout reading” - Saint Benedict of Nursia
Men,
It is well stated that idle hands are the devil’s workshop. Idleness is an enemy to our soul because it is the first step to forming bad habits. Idleness, better known as sloth, is a purposeful negligence of our duty here on earth.
With a stagnant soul, we are unable to accomplish God’s will, straying away from the difficult obstacles before us.
You, as a man, are created to overcome and when you….your soul, run from effort, you seek to replace God’s plan with an easier one, in effect….
Rejecting Him.
A myriad of sinfulness can stem from idleness as it slowly creeps upon your soul.
Do not allow the growth of passion and vice.
Addictions may arise from spiritual disorder.
Perhaps it is time for a spiritual RE-ordering.
Remember - he who labors as he prays lifts his heart to God with his hands.
