Men,
Even as president of the Untied States, Jimmy Carter [political alliances aside] was still determined to carve out time in his extremely busy schedule for reflection and prayer. Just days after being sworn into office, he told his aides to push back all of his meetings
“I need more time alone early each morning,” he wrote told them.
He dedicated an hour of reading and thinking and prayer.
Marcus Aurelius, the philosopher king wrote about greeting the dawn.
“At dawn, when you have trouble getting out of bed, tell yourself: “I have to go to work — as a human being. What do I have to complain of, if I’m going to do what I was born for — the things I was brought into the world to do? Or is this what I was created for? To huddle under the blankets and stay warm?”
But what about us everyday peasants? Each day it is so easy to get sucked into our screens first thing in the morning.
OR we wake up late and already fall behind.
While Jimmy was pushing back those important meetings, it was not to get distracted, it was to get centered.
So…what do you give the most valuable part of your day to?
The mornings are the time to center.
How are you spending them?
How are you protecting them?

I just recommended this SS to my sweet husband. He’s at work, but he’s going to subscribe. Thank you for writing on these man-focused topics. As you are well aware, the men in our society are in desperate need of encouragement and spiritual depth. We have 4 boys (& 3 girls), but the youngest is now 19. Thank the Lord, they are all well-adjusted. My concern is that they need armor to protect them and to help them fight against all the malevolent forces out there in the big wide open.
