10 Ways For a Man To Improve His Life
You want more out of life. These ten habits will help you to live life to the fullest in 2023
Men,
Happy New year, how are those resolutions coming? If you’re doing well, amazing! Faltering? It happens. The important thing is to get back up onto the horse.
This year, I aim to be stronger, more confident, more capable, and most importantly, more dependent on the Almighty. I hope you will join me on this journey of self-improvement.
The average man is content to be mediocre, but we are called to live up to our high value. Most men today are addicted to porn, video games and alcohol. You are better than this.
So you want more out of life. I want more out of life. These simple habits will help you live it to the fullest, further developing your mind, body and soul. Let’s kick off the new year.
1. Take a daily stroll
It’s a walk in the park. The daily stroll improves your mind, gives clarity of thought, enhances creativity, and can be a time of reflection. It also helps with exercise.
2. Journaling
Here you can collect thoughts, ideas, advice, wisdom and scripture you have gathered / read throughout your week. Collect it all in a notebook that you can reference when you seek clarity on the challenges in your life.
3. Unplug.
It’s time to get away from the corporate machine. The filth of mainstream media wants to make you believe the world and humans in it are worse than it actually is. The anxiety of keeping up with every single little thing, especially every single little bad thing that happens across the world is exhausting. Focus on your local community, what you can control and loving your neighbor along the way.
4. Consult Great Minds
Aim for books that have withstood the test of time. The Classics, Holy Scripture, Meditations and Musings of history’s great teachers and disruptors. Most people only read tweets and headlines. Go deeper by accessing timeless books for a greater breadth and depth of knowledge. Model these men, walk in Christ’s footsteps.
5. Simplify.
Joy is, more often than not, a matter of subtraction. Stop being afraid to cut harmful things and people out of your life. In the history of mankind, we have never had access to more material goods as we do now, but that doesn’t mean it is making your life better. Prioritize.
Think “Is this bringing me closer to God?”
6. Choose Greatness! Daily.
Every man has a choice. Each one we make is a battle between mediocrity and excellence. Between God and the enemy. The wisest of those decisions often require sacrifice and are no doubt the most difficult. Choosing the right thing to do in your daily actions produces good fruit. When done consistently, the fruits of your labor add up.
7. Assert yourself.
You are a man. Act like it. Be a presence in this world and take up your place in the public square. Meek does not mean weak. Stop the self-depreciating humor. That is not humility, it is attention seeking. It also crushes you mentally.
8. Stop watching porn.
Porn is beyond damaging to you in so many aspects - mind, body, soul, not to mention it can and eventually will erode your relationship with your spouse. Be mindful of those wandering eyes. Pray for Chastity, ask Our Lady to intercede on your behalf, that God give you the discipline for this ongoing battle. Check out Covenant Eyes. Hold yourself accountable.
9. Take on a winning attitude
Therefore, do not be anxious about tomorrow; for the future day will be anxious for itself. Sufficient for the day is its evil."
Matthew 6:34
Apply this to daily work that you do not enjoy. Offer it up to God. This mindset will help you both build and maintain character and resolve.
10. Daily Prayer
I have saved the best and most meaningful for last. Daily Prayer. Your day starts with glorifying God. The God who counted every hair on your head. It also ends that way. The best way to center your life is to get your soul and mind centered on the Almighty. He is the One that will give you strength for the day’s trials and tribulations. Let the first and last things you do each day be this - Give Thanks.
There is much to be thankful for in this life. Things that we all tend to take for granted. You have a roof over your head, clothes on your back, food on the table and a family to come home to to love, like Christ loves His Church. Do not take that for granted. Pray and be happy with what you have been given.
Ideas for Daily Prayer : Liturgy of the Hours, Daily Readings, Lives of the Saints, Writings from the Church Fathers, The Convert, The Holy Rosary, etc.
